Purple Box

Powerful digital solutions for advisers delivered using our custom-made SAAS product development services

Overview

A financial planning company sought to grow their business by streamlining the fact finding and implementing the CRM solution through their financial planning services to their members. In order to support this new business initiative, they looked for a system to support their financial planners, para-planners, and call centre.

The customer recognised that their new financial planning system needed to be integrated with their existing XPLAN database and also with their customer correspondence tracking system.

23 Digital were engaged to develop a solution that would synchronise the data and events between the three systems. To that end we designed and built a messaging hub that integrated, transformed, and routed messages between systems.

The solution involved the application of various messaging design patterns: adapters, message store, file drop, XML transformation, and message routing. The case study is by no means a template for every circumstance; however it does demonstrate the depth of design and delivery experience 23 Digital bring to each unique customer objective.

The Objective

Prior to developing the new software, all financial planners used PowerPoint to provide presentations to their customer and it required lot of manual efforts to type in customer data into the XPLAN system.

Income Solutions management staff identified that they must create a CRM application, which allows their staff members to keep record of their prospects, create presentations with ease, record time spent on creating presentations and educate their customers from one central tool. The new system should also allow prospective customers and existing customers to manage their records in central place as well as update their information when it is required.

  • The new system should allow central administrative team to find how their Financial Advisers are performing and see what is there in their pipeline.
  • New system needed to provide comprehensive reporting to view different statistics across the company.
  • System should integrate with XPLAN system therefore avoiding the basic data entry of the clients manually.
  • The application can be used as CRM software by Financial Advisers to prospect new customers, provide presentation to prospective customers and allow existing customers to access their information through portal.
  • Prospective customer should get an access to the wizard where they can provide information about their life goals and financial information
  • Financial Advisers could create different presentations for income path and present them to their customers along with booking them for seminars and events.
  • System should also allow them to identify the right prospect opportunity.
  • Site administrators will be able to view the reports, pipeline and prospects within database as well as performance of the Financial Advisers.

The Challenge

Purple Box had a tight timeline to develop the first iteration of an application for its users to track prospects and their fact fining. Purple Box previously used PowerPoint to perform such function and did not have clear idea on how to turn the simple idea into business.

Purple Box’s CEO, Jason Robert says, “the decision to engage with 23 Digital was to leverage their rapid development expertise in order to quickly develop a prototype to test with our users.”

Due to the tight turnaround, it was important to rapidly get something in the hands of users to minimise software development with the ability to easily modify or change things quicker and test different ideas.

The main challenge was to design and develop the financial planner CRM app from scratch and market it aggressively to provide a robust visual-cum-functional experience that focused on the app’s main features and user experience.

Following features were suggested to define the app’s scope and its usability:

  • Client Fact finding
  • Preparing the financial summary and plan
  • Money tracker
  • Debt eliminator
  • Future Planner
  • Integration with Xplan
  • Developing custom reporting solution

Each of the features had to be researched before development, along with market and competitor analytics to support the app’s development process. As we started working on the project, we needed to set a framework model that elevated the width of each feature, making it more comprehensive.

The Solution

By combining the efforts of our development and design teams, we employed the .net core framework & React front-end with expressive and elegant syntax to move the development process towards seamlessness. Our teams ensured that each process is carried without compromising the app functionality.

We then integrated the app with XPLAN, which is a tech layer for financial services. We used it to connect the users’ fact finding and financial planning data to the app. To build a neat UI, we also used the react framework, so the flexibility remains at peak. Since the app requires a graphical representation of data, we used Highcharts to add interactive charts for engaging data display.

23 Digital catered to the client by sticking to their requirements matched with our expertise. We ensured that the client is updated on both the design and development front. To get the project completed on time 7 budget, we relied on the strength of our teams to race against the time frame provided to us.

Purple Box’es CEO Jason Robert says, “We didn’t have a solid idea of how some of the functionality would work – this included the ability to integrate with XPLAN. 23 Digital just took a few conversations and the idea and were able to design the application.”

”They put themselves in the mind of the end-user and was able to adapt the design to suit without making it a complex process,” Jason said.

The Result

Jason says, “the project was on budget with minimal use of our time and met all expectations we had set out.”

While the main goal of producing the first iteration of a financial planning and fact-finding application was met, Json says it’s the first step in meeting the overarching goal of offering an intelligent solution for its customers.

“The overall aim for the application is to give our customers visibility of their pipeline, streamline the fact-finding experience and also providing valuable information around their budget and fund performance.”

Clients of the Purple Box platform report both a growth in new financial planning practices using the system as well as a significant reduction in administrative workloads. Use of the software is growing month on month, with inbound demand for the software from new financial planning providers at an all time high.
