Designed an eCommerce website to empower mobility-impaired users

Overview

Vital Living is a principal supplier of high-quality mobility, disability, rehabilitation and independent living products on the Mid North Coast and beyond. They’re here to improve lives and know how important it is to keep all Australians active, independent and mobile within their homes and their community.

Vital Living approached 23 Digital, to initially carry out an SEO campaign and looked at the possibility of building an eCommerce Web Design. We looked at their ‘then’ website and carried out a full website audit. The audit identified numerous issues on the website that need to be corrected. In addition to this, part of the analysis showed that the front-end of the website did not have clear navigation for visitors and did not display credibility, trust and authority. Improvements to the existing website were necessary in order to successfully execute the Search Engine Optimisation campaign. It is also key that onsite website preparation is conducted to fully implement the SEO marketing strategy.

The Challenge

Designing an eCommerce website for Vital Living presented several challenges, including:

  • Product categorisation: Vital Living has a wide range of products, including mobility, rehabilitation, independent living, and disability aids. The challenge was to categorise these products in a way that was intuitive and easy for customers to navigate. The website design team had to work closely with Vital Living to determine the best way to categorise products.
  • Product images and descriptions: To sell products online, high-quality images and descriptions are essential. However, some of the products sold by Vital Living are complex and require detailed descriptions and images to ensure customers understand the product’s features and benefits. The website design team had to work closely with Vital Living to ensure that each product had high-quality images and descriptions.
  • Accessibility: Vital Living specialises in products for people with mobility and disability needs, so the website design had to ensure that the website was accessible to all users. This involved ensuring that the website’s design and functionality were compatible with assistive technology and that the website met WCAG 2.0 guidelines for accessibility.
  • Payment processing: As an eCommerce website, Vital Living’s website needed to integrate with a secure payment processing system. The website design team had to ensure that the website’s payment processing system was secure, reliable, and easy for customers to use.
  • Website speed: Website speed is crucial for eCommerce websites as slow-loading websites can negatively impact the user experience and lead to lost sales. The website design team had to ensure that the website’s pages loaded quickly and that the website was optimised for speed.

Overcoming these challenges required close collaboration between the website design team and Vital Living to ensure that the website met the needs of the business and its customers.
