The Problem

The Marsupial of the Year project required an engaging and easy-to-use website that would capture public interest while educating users about Australia’s native marsupials. The original digital concept had no cohesive structure to present the information and voting process effectively, nor did it successfully create a connection between users and the cause. The need for a well-optimised, visually appealing website to handle large-scale interactions and convey a serious conservation message was evident.

The Solution

23 Digital approached the project with a focus on building an intuitive, visually appealing, and interactive platform. The key aspects of the solution included:

  • UI/UX Design: We created an engaging, user-friendly interface with seamless navigation, ensuring that users could easily learn about the featured marsupials and participate in the voting process. The site design incorporated rich visuals and interactive elements to enhance engagement and ensure that all age groups could enjoy the experience.
  • Tone of Voice and Content Strategy: We crafted a tone of voice that was both educational and conversational, making the content accessible to a wide audience, from young students to adults interested in conservation. The information on each marsupial was presented in an interesting manner, encouraging users to connect emotionally with the species.
  • Personalisation and Public Involvement: We developed features that put the focus on the marsupials, including interactive voting functionality, species profiles, and videos. By integrating a voting mechanism and interactive content, we empowered users to participate in the project and feel personally involved in the campaign.
  • WordPress CMS Integration: The website was built on the WordPress CMS, allowing the Channel 10 team to easily manage content updates, add new marsupials, and make real-time changes. This flexibility was key in ensuring that the initiative remained dynamic and engaging.

The Result

The Marsupial of the Year website succeeded in raising public awareness and encouraging active participation. Key outcomes included:

  • Increased Engagement: Over 10,000 votes were cast during the campaign, with high levels of user interaction across various species profiles and educational resources.
  • Positive Feedback: Users praised the design and ease of navigation, highlighting the visual appeal and engaging content.
  • Boost in Conservation Awareness: The initiative gained substantial media attention, driving more visitors to the site and increasing interest in marsupial conservation efforts.
  • Scalable and Flexible Platform: The use of WordPress allowed the Channel 10 team to maintain and update the site effortlessly, ensuring continued relevance even after the campaign ended.
